Jim Abbott is an innovation strategist and founder of Polynovation, LLC.  He is also a member of the Willamette Angels and Director of Electronic Films Engineering at Crown Electrokinetics, a small Oregon start-up, where he is focused on developing scalable materials technologies and working with manufacturing partners to commercialize a novel microfluidic and electrokinetic ink technology into the smart window market.

 

Previously Jim was Advanced Thin Film and Nanomaterials technical leader at the HP Inc. MEMS foundry where he owned the thin films commercialization roadmap for Thermal Ink Jet and other advanced materials initiatives.  To date, he has been granted more than 60 US and international patents.  Additionally, he has been an author of 9 peer-reviewed journal articles and a presenter at several international scientific conferences.  He also served as an officer in the United States Navy and received his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from Oregon State University.

Jim’s passion is to help build innovation teams, technologies, and strategies, enabling people to change the world.  He believes that the linkage of science innovation with business innovation is critical to achieving this vision.
